SOUTH EAST TRIANGULAR TOURNAMENT FOR GIRLS - GIRLS BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT NEEDS YOU NOW!!
A message from Andy Lambros
Dear All
My name is Andy lambros and am active on the Surrey Basketball Association committee as well as being co-chair of Kingston Wildcats school of basketball, One of SBA' & my missions this year is to increase participation of "Girls" in Basketball, in certainly surrey and in doing so the hopefully the South East; to this end I would like to invite your consideration of attending a triangular tournament to be held in April or May probably at K2 in Crawley, I would ideally like two teams from each county from each age group ie U13 x 2 & U15 x 2 if we can get U17s girls teams together then include these too, these two teams must be made up from representative county teams - (not 1 club)
I would like to work with you all to ensure that each team has maybe 5/6 (maximum) proficient players (to NL standard) and 5/6 novices perhaps the traditional school or county level player. the aim is no one county team plays; for example 12 girls that all play for the same national league team and win every county game by 50 pts - the over riding objective and goal here is "girls development and increased participation here, not winning the tournament. Thats just for fun!
If at the end to the day each county has 20+ more girls to develop at each age group then we have all won! I am of course assuming you struggle as we do in the county to increase participation for girls.
Rough day structure - Passerelle rules, each team would pay an entry fee say £60 this money would cover court and medals and cups and of course referee's and table officials, the Under 13s would play in the morning and U15s lunchtime/through 3.30pm and if we can get them the U17s would play 4 - 6 assuming 1 team from each county only.
Sadly it will largely have to be self funding hence the charges but any surplus would be refunded on a equal basis to entrants.
Assuming U13s & U15s have 5/6 teams we would play a lot of short games say 6 or 7 minute running quarters on each court a similar structure to the Surrey Challenge cup at Surrey sports park last year which was a successful day. I can firm up structure later once I know team numbers.
We in Surrey, if you are all interested will try and hold trials asap and then perhaps get 1 or 2 training sessions in for the team prior to the tournament. This will help cover the costs too, we can try and get a t-shirts deal too for each of county
At this stage I am writing to everyone I know in basketball in the SE who may like to get involved I am sure there are others you can include in your county but right now I just need an acknowledgment of interest and commitment to get involved. Could you let me know asap if you would be interested in some event like this.
I would really like to get some of the Olympic GB ladies team along to help the coaches and generally make a fuss of the participating girls, So I am using any contacts I have to facilitate this, I would ask you to do the same.
Please let me know by return of you are interested and I will get working on dates and structure, If I don't hear from you in the next 7 days I will assume you are not interested in the event. If I have the wrong people please let me know or forward to the correct ones asap.
Sincerely
Andy Lambros
